Exploring Human Rights

Exploring Human Rights introduces students to the fundamentals of human rights. Students will think critically about the ways in which human rights impact their community and determine the role that they can play in addressing local human rights issues. Available for a wide range of age groups and with lesson plans ranging from 15 minutes to 1 hour, this program is a great way to introduce human rights to your classroom!

Environmental Protection and Sustainability

Our Earth, Our Community

Through this program, students will learn the importance of the environment to human rights and develop ways they can make a positive difference for their environment and their community.

Education in Our Community

Students will learn about the right to education, barriers that prevent young people from attending school, and think critically about the ways in which they can improve access to education in their communities.

Women and Girls

Learning Her Story

Through interactive lesson plans, students will understand the history of girls’ rights under the broader umbrella of human rights as a whole, gain greater understanding of gender inequality, and develop an awareness of how they can have an impact on girls’ rights issues in their community.

Diversity, Activism, and Social Justice

Social Justice in Our Community

Through interactive lesson plans, participants will learn about social justice in the context of human rights and think critically about the ways in which they can improve social justice in their communities.

STEM: Science Technology Engineering Math

STEM for Human Rights

STEM for Human Rights is a program developing video lesson exploring STEM innovations and their impact on human rights. Each video lesson features an interview with an expert in the field. The goals of this program are to improve scientific literacy, increase diversity in STEM, and inspire students to use STEM to help others.

Lesson Components:

• Background: Overview of the technology/innovation

• Expert Interview: Pre-recorded interviews with leaders in the field dive deeper into the innovation, impact, scientific background, and their own career path

• Discussion & Reflection: Students engage in a discussion or reflection activity where they are encouraged to think about the issues in their community and consider ways that this innovation or another STEM innovation could impact their community

Create a class project to help your community

Young Human Rights Changemakers

This program walks classrooms through the steps to develop a project that has a positive impact on the community. Through the program, participants work together to understand the human rights issues their community is facing and create a class project to help address the issue(s). Through the program, participants gain budget creation, leadership, communication, and entrepreneurship skills while developing a deeper understanding of what human rights are and how human rights impact their community. Participants also have the chance to see first hand how their actions can have a positive impact on their community. Guided by the Human Projects Team, this program is the perfect fit for classrooms ready to use what they have learned about human rights to help others.
